Applied Statistics is a first-class undergraduate major in Hebei Province. Established against the backdrop of the "big data" era to meet societal needs, this major leverages Hebei Normal University's traditional strengths in mathematics and computer science. It aims to cultivate high-quality, multifaceted statistical talents with a solid mathematical foundation, comprehensive statistical knowledge, mastery of basic statistical theories and methods, and proficiency in using modern information technology and computer techniques for data analysis and processing. Graduates are prepared for roles in statistical survey, statistical information management, data analysis, development, application, and management in various fields such as economics, management, biology, medicine, finance, insurance, commerce, information technology, education, water resources, and environmental studies. The Applied Statistics major (071202) officially began enrolling undergraduate students in 2014.
1. Training Objectives
The program aims to develop well-rounded individuals with a comprehensive understanding of statistical knowledge, theory, and basic methods. Based on the content of this discipline, graduates will be capable of analyzing data using computers and have practical skills. They will be equipped to conduct statistical surveys and quantitative analyses in fields like economics, finance, big data, and water resources. Graduates will be qualified for research and teaching in scientific and educational departments, possessing innovative spirit and practical abilities. They will be self-motivated learners with an innovative mindset and a global perspective, ready for advanced studies in statistics and related fields.
2. Graduation Requirements
1. Moral Qualities: Good political, ideological, cultural, moral, physical, and psychological qualities, and a sense of social responsibility.
2. Statistical Knowledge: Solid understanding of basic statistical theories, knowledge, methods, and systematic statistical thinking.
3. Mathematical Knowledge: Proficient in basic mathematical knowledge with good mathematical literacy, trained in scientific thinking, and capable of data collection, organization, and analysis.
4. Computer Skills: Proficient in computer operation, able to use statistical software for data analysis and interpret results correctly.
5. Research Skills: Familiarity with basic knowledge related to economic statistics, financial engineering, actuarial science, demography, e-commerce, etc. Some capability in mathematical modeling and applying theoretical knowledge to solve practical statistical problems.
6. Scientific Literacy: Certain research capabilities, adaptability to different environments, and teamwork skills.
7. Self-directed Learning: Strong self-learning ability, capable of independent further learning, and quick adaptation to different work requirements.
