Our University Hosts the First International Symposium for Young and Middle-Aged Mathematics Education Workers on Doctoral Dissertations

From May 26th to 28th, the "First International Symposium for Young and Middle-Aged Mathematics Education Workers on Doctoral Dissertations" was successfully held at our university. This event, sponsored by the Mathematics Education Branch of the Chinese Mathematical Society and co-organized by the School of Mathematical Sciences of Hebei Normal University and the International Exchange Working Group of the Mathematics Education Branch of the Chinese Mathematical Society, featured academic paper exchanges, research reflections, and insights from PhDs who obtained their degrees abroad, those who had 1-2 years of overseas visits, and foreign PhDs who earned their degrees in China. Over 200 experts, scholars, and graduate students from more than 40 institutions, including Middle Tennessee State University, Auburn University, the University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, and Hunan Normal University, participated in the conference both offline and online. The conference included an opening ceremony, invited reports, a young scholars' forum, and a closing ceremony.

Academician Tian Gang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Chinese Mathematical Society delivered a video opening speech. He introduced the objectives of the "Mathematics Education International Exchange Working Group," aiming to strengthen academic exchanges and practical cooperation between mathematics educators at home and abroad, promoting Chinese mathematics education globally. Professor Guo Yi, Vice President of Hebei Normal University, welcomed the guests and briefly introduced the university's achievements in mathematics. Professor Fan, Lianghuo, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Mathematics Education Branch of the Chinese Mathematical Society, Distinguished Professor at East China Normal University, and Director of the Asian Centre for Mathematics Education Research, detailed the members of the international exchange working group. Professor Yuan, Liping, Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences, chaired the opening ceremony.

In the invited reports session, Professor Fan, Lianghuo, Professor Mo Yat-Chi of the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Huang, Rongjin of Middle Tennessee State University gave specialized reports on topics like "How to Understand International Mathematics Education Theories and Practices," "PhD Student Growth," and "Case Study Research and Condensation of High-Quality Research Outcomes."

In the young scholars' forum, nine young scholars from the University of Macau, Nanjing Normal University, Hebei Normal University, Shandong Normal University, the Education University of Hong Kong, East China Normal University, and Beijing Normal University deeply exchanged and shared insights on topics such as comparative mathematics education, doctoral dissertation writing in mathematics education, and trends and methods in mathematics education research.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Zhang, Qiaoping from the Education University of Hong Kong, representing Professor Fan, Lianghuo, delivered a summary speech. Professor Fan, Lianghuo, on behalf of the branch and the international exchange working group, expressed sincere thanks to all guests, speakers, participants, and those who contributed to the successful organization of the conference, especially the leaders, teachers, and staff of Hebei Normal University.

This symposium, with its rich agenda and full exchanges, will further enhance the internationalization of China's mathematics education research and is of significant importance in promoting high-level talent cultivation in the field of mathematics education.
