On the morning of November 4th, Professor Yang, Junfeng, a doctoral supervisor in the Department of Mathematics at Nanjing University, was invited to our college to deliver presentations for undergraduate and graduate students, and also to engage in in-depth discussions with students on topics such as professional study and postgraduate entrance examination preparations. The lecture was hosted by Dean Yuan, Liping of the School.
At 9:00 AM, in Classroom A108 of the Public Teaching Building, Professor Yang, Junfeng gave a detailed introduction to the sub-discipline of mathematics – Operations Research and Mathematical Optimization. This included topics like network optimization, mathematical programming, game theory, optimization problems in data science, as well as optimization problems in image processing and their fast-solving algorithms, compressed sensing, and sparse optimization. He demonstrated the beauty of mathematics through these topics. Professor Yang also interacted with students on-site, introducing the curriculum and postgraduate entrance examination policies of Nanjing University's Mathematics Department. The event was lively, with over 200 undergraduates from the college attending the lecture.
At 10:45 AM, in the college's National Training Classroom, Professor Yang, Junfeng, drawing on his recent research achievements in optimization problems in image processing, delivered a report to the graduate students of the college. He encouraged the students to cultivate scientific thinking, inspire innovation, and aspire to make achievements in the field of mathematics. More than 120 graduate students attended the lecture.
Dean Yuan, Liping expressed gratitude to Professor Yang, Junfeng for his wonderful lecture and encouraged students to take excellent alumni as role models, study diligently, establish solid knowledge, focus on research, and actively contribute to the development of the college.
Professor Yang, Junfeng, from the Department of Mathematics at Nanjing University, is a doctoral supervisor. He studied at the College of Mathematics and Information Science of Hebei Normal University from 1999 to 2006, obtaining his Bachelor and Master degrees in Science. He pursued his Ph.D. at Nanjing University from 2006 to 2009 and has been working in the Mathematics Department of Nanjing University since July 2009. His main research interests are in optimization computational methods and their applications, and he has developed software packages such as FTVd for image deblurring, YALL1 for sparse solution decoding in compressed sensing, and RecPF for MRI image restoration. In 2012, he was selected for the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program. In 2016, he received the Youth Science and Technology Award from the Operations Research Society of China, the Best Paper Award from the International Association of Chinese Mathematicians in 2017, the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Excellent Young Scientists Fund in 2019, and was listed as an Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researcher for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022.
