School of Mathematical Sciences Hosts "MathSci Lecture Hall" Expert Lecture

On the afternoon of November 24th, the School of Mathematical Sciences held an expert lecture in the "MathSci Lecture Hall" at the Public Teaching Building A110. Professor Zhang Zilong, the former Party Secretary of the school and an Advanced Individual in Teacher Ethics in Hebei Province, was specially invited to deliver a professional learning guidance report titled "How to Study Mathematics from the Perspective of Mathematical Research." Deputy Party Secretary of the School Gu Lianzhong, counselor Zhou Yaxuan, and over 300 students from the class of 2023 participated in the event.

Professor Zhang Zilong started his lecture by discussing the professional development, academic strengths, and distinguished alumni of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Hebei Normal University. He recounted the history of generations of mathematicians who pursued truth and practicality and overcame difficulties to establish their field. He highlighted the continuous breakthroughs and achievements of the mathematics discipline, which has nurtured many outstanding talents, including leaders of mathematics departments in various renowned universities in China. He encouraged the students to have confidence in their discipline, focus on national development, and stay firm in their belief in serving the country through science and technology. He also shared insights on how to study mathematics from the perspective of mathematical research, drawing from his personal growth experiences and teaching and research. He encouraged students to take extensive notes, ask questions, cultivate a sense of innovation, and lay a solid foundation in their major, providing them with many practical learning methods.

Professor Zhang Zilong used precise academic language to expose students to the wonders of mathematics, letting them appreciate the logic, symmetry, and rigor of mathematics. His lecture deepened the students' understanding of the mathematics major and effectively stimulated their interest in learning. In the interactive session, Professor Zhang also answered questions posed by the students, creating a lively atmosphere at the event.
